Lockdown didn't prevent Athy College from ending the term with the Jerusalema Challenge. Complying with social distancing regulations both students and staff got in the spirit of the event and had fun after a long and challenging term. Thank you to one and all.
Further to the alert issued by the Department of Education this morning regarding the use of some hand sanitiser product we can confirm that we do not use or did not use the recalled product.
As promised we have updated our Athy College VSware app for parents. Through this app, which is the same one which parents have been using, you can now log in and:
All you need is to download the VSware app to your phone and use the username and password received from Athy College As we approach Hallowe’en and amid all of the uncertainty of whether schools close or open in Level 5 can I say on behalf of parents and the community a very special thanks to our teachers, SNAs and school staff. With restrictions on how many people we can safely see on a daily basis our teachers have become Ireland's second line of frontline workers who daily engage with dozens and even hundreds of students. I humbly say a very sincere thanks to these national heroes who each day help this country in the battle against Covid.
Please help to keep our schools safe by not visiting schools unnecessarily. With just over a week left until closing date, Athy College has already received the highest number of applications ever for 2021. Applications close at 4pm on Fri 23rd Oct after which waiting list will apply. Online application at http://www.athycollege.ie/online-enrolment.html
Might just look like an ordinary class but Athy College TY students link in each week with the Royal College of Surgeons to take part in a pilot well-being programme being delivered online. We are delighted to be associated with this most prestigious body as we explore different aspects of health and well being together. Many thanks to Dr Padraic Dunne (RCSI) and Joanne Parry (Athy College) for advancing this ground breaking project.
Well done to Athy College TY students who have taken part in the Athy Bridge 21 Learn programme over the past 2 days. Last year we completed this programme in TCD but this year Covid got in the way so we designed our own creative, problem solving and digital skill programme. Well done to teachers Ms Burke and Ms Daly who took the students through this exciting programme.
Athy College wins School of Distinction: Innovation Award from Trinity Access, Trinity College Dublin
Athy College has been recognised by Trinity Access, Trinity College Dublin, for their ongoing work in creating a college-going culture in their school. The Schools of Distinction Award, conferred by Trinity Access, Trinity College Dublin, recognises and showcases the efforts of schools nationwide to transform their school culture and to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The scheme recognises the often extraordinary work being successfully undertaken by schools in challenging conditions and with limited resources. It encourages participants to draw on their own school and community resources and the resources of the Trinity Access project in Trinity College Dublin to support educational innovation and change. This School of Distinction: Innovation Award, recognises the creative and innovative ways that schools are embedding a college-going culture. They have active, student-centred programmes that support our 3 core practices of Pathways to College, Mentoring and Leadership in Learning in their school. Innovation Award winners support and encourage their teachers to explore innovative teaching methodologies, engage with other excellent teachers through our Community of Practice and establish Community of Practices within their own schools For further information visit https://www.tcd.ie/trinityaccess/teachers/unlinked/ This award scheme aims to support the development of ‘college-going’ practices and a student-centred, innovative learning environment across schools nationwide. Athy College was particularly successful in harnessing technology to deliver quality teaching learning in a challenging time. Principal Richard Daly said, “We are delighted to be part of a nationwide movement to promote the importance of post-secondary education. Winning the School of Distinction: Innovation award recognises the ongoing work of our staff and students” Cliona Hannon, Director of Trinity Access says, “We are delighted to recognise the innovative, leadership and community focused work that these schools have achieved in an extraordinary year. We hope to share the learning from these beacons of creativity with all our other school partners. A warm congratulations from all in Trinity Access for your courageous and creative leadership.” Athy College were delighted to welcome Garda Sean O'Mahoney and Road Safety Officer Declan Keogh to the school today to talk to students about road safety, particularly related to cycling. Athy College has a high percentage of students who cycle to school and their safety and the safety of other road users is of major concern. Both of our guests provided some harrowing examples of the results of bad judgement on the roads. Thank you Sean and Declan.
From tomorrow morning the front door of Athy College will close at 9am each morning
Students are asked to please be on time so that we can close the door and secure the building. We are asking that only delivery and emergency services access the premises and any others by appointment only. We can not accept items left in for students and if a student has a medical or other appointment during the school day they should not attend school on that day. A child presenting as sick should not attend school and should a student become ill during the school day please ensure that there is someone to answer the given phone number and able to arrange collection of the student. We are making every effort to keep our premises safe and Covid free and rely on all of our families to support us in this effort. To minimise visits to school
When times are better we would love to meet you again in person but in the meantime unless it is an emergency please do not call to the school. |
