Date 2nd February 2020
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), The Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) has notified KWETB that, following a ballot, all TUI members have been directed to take strike action on Tuesday 4th February 2020. On that day, pickets will be placed on workplaces where TUI members are employed. Athy College has a number of teachers who are members of the TUI. Following a detailed assessment of the implications of the strike action on the operation of the school/college/centre, management in consultation with the Education and Training Board has reluctantly decided that it cannot guarantee the health and safety of students/learners on the premises on that day. Therefore, we are informing you not to send your child to school on Tuesday 4th February. Athy College will be open to receive students on Wednesday 5th February. Yours faithfully, Richard Daly _____________________ Principal Following their visit to Athy College last year our Japanese students returned to Sapporo, Japan and organised the first ever St. Patrick's Day Parade in that city.
